The Miraculous Power of Confession

Holy-Ghost-Fire

For with the heart man believeth unto unrighteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”—Romans 10:10

The word “confession” as used in the New Testament of the bible is translated from the Greek word “Homologeo” and its derivative word “Exomologeo”. And they collectively mean:

  1. To Assent: That is, agreement or acknowledgement. ‘Exomologeo’ in this instance goes a step further to mean, full agreement.
  2. To Declare Freely and Openly
  3. To give thanks. To celebrate or give praise
  4. To admit guilty to a fault or sin

In the opening text (Romans 10:10) the word of God tells us that with the heart man believeth (believes) unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Which means, for anyone to receive the free salvation that is in Christ Jesus, believing with the heart alone is not enough. As we hear the word of God and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and his word in our hearts, we receive the gift of righteousness or justification.

But this justification by believing in the heart, will not give us salvation until we confess or verbalize what we believe in our hearts with our mouths. In other words, for us to receive salvation from God, we must first believe in God and his word with the heart; and after believing, we must activate our faith for salvation by assenting  fully with our mouths what we believe.  And when the bible talks of salvation here, it is not only referring to salvation from sin.

The same spiritual principle expounded above, also applies to every other kind of salvation from God. The divine salvation principle in Romans 10:10, applies to salvation from sin, satanic attacks, poverty, sickness, etc. So believing in Jesus and his words in our hearts brings us into a position of potential victory, success or dominion.

While confession or profession of what we believe in our hearts with our mouth brings our victory, success and dominion to practical reality. So confession is the spiritual key to success and failure. If you believe and confess the truth of God’s word continually, you enjoy miraculous victory, success and dominion in life.

While if you believe and confess the things that are not in line with the truth of God’s word, you end up a failure in life. Concerning how to get good success in life, below is what God instructed Joshua in the book of Joshua 1:8; “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mightest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous,  and then thou shalt have good success

In the above text, among other things, the Lord says if we must make our ways prosperous  and have good success in life, we must not let the book of the law (the word of God) depart out of our mouth. He didn’t say it shouldn’t depart out of our eyes or hearts, but rather he says we should not let the word depart from our mouth. In other words, we must keep on saying or confessing the words. So here we see that confession of the truth of God’s word for our all-round salvation is not a one-off thing. If we must succeed in life, we must confess the word of God and continually do so if we must remain successful in life.

We shouldn’t confess for a while and change our confession for any reason or prevailing circumstances. Our confessions must be consistent and persistent. We must not confess the truth of God’s word along with things that are not consistent with God’s word.

Platforms for Scriptural Confessions

Prayers: prayer is the major platform for believers to be making confession of God’s word on regular basis, daily. The bible says we should pray without ceasing. And each time you pray, take enough time to confess what you believe in God’s word concerning every facet or aspect of your life. In your prayers, confess your forgiveness, holiness, righteousness, deliverance, riches, glorification, perfection, power, love, faith, sound mind, etc., in Christ Jesus. Then as you confess your success and victories in Christ Jesus, in your prayers…

You Should Also Confess Your Sins in Prayers

Yes, I decided to draw special attention to this aspect of confession, because there are those who preach and teach that believers do not need to confess their sins to God in prayers. But while Jesus was teaching his disciples (which include us) to pray, he said we should pray for forgiveness (See Matthew 6:12). Then Saint John by the Spirit also tells us in 1 John 1:8-9 that “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

So as you pray, make out sometime to honestly confess your sins to God and receive forgiveness and fresh strength to live above sin by faith.

2) Thanksgiving and Praises: Thanksgiving and praises is how we confess God’s greatness and goodness in our lives to ourselves and others. So you must make thanksgiving and praises to God a lifestyle to continually enjoy God’s miracles in your life.

3) Bold and Open Declaration: Another  way you also confess the word of God for victory in life, is bold and open declaration of God’s word we believe in our hearts as the need arises. You declare the word boldly when you get tempted with any issue of life. Such as being tempted with sin, sickness, financial lack, satanic attack, etc. Then amongst other ways, you also boldly and openly declare the word of God in public or during your one on one evangelism.

The Lord give you the grace to make confession of his word at all time and in every situation, a lifestyle in Jesus Name!
