This post aims at scripturally opening our eyes to who Jesus Christ is to us as believers, and indeed the world at large. And with this scriptural exposition, we’ll begin to give him his proper position in our lives. And by so doing, we can better enjoy the blessings of God in our lives.
So Who Is Jesus Christ?
The list below answers the question of who Jesus Christ is to us as believers and the world as a whole:
- Jesus
is The Only Begotten Son of God: “And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water:
and lo the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven,
saying This is my beloved Son, in whom I
am well pleased”—Matthew 3:16-17
- Jesus
is the Almighty God—The Same As The Father and The Holy Spirit: “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the
ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the
Almighty”—Revelation 1:8 (See also John 1:1; Isaiah 9:6-7)
- Jesus
Christ is The Anointed one of God: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to
preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to
preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to
set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the
Lord… And he began to say unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in
your ears”—Luke 4:18-19, 21(See also Isaiah 61:1-3)
- Jesus
is Our Greatest Prophet sent from God the Father: “And there came a fear on all and they
glorified God saying, that a great prophet is risen among us; and, That God
hath visited his people”—Luke 7:16(See also Deuteronomy 18:15, 18; Matthew
21:11; John 6:14)
- Jesus
Is Our Saviour and Redeemer: “And she shall bring forth a son,
and thou shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from
their sins”—Matthew 1:21(See also Romans 3:24, 1Corinthians 1:30)
- Jesus is Our King—He is the King of
Kings and Lord of Lords: “On the next day much people that were come
to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, Took branches
of Palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the
King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord”—John 12:12-13(See also
John1:49)
- Jesus Is Our Advocate—Our Intercessor
and Consoler: “My
little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And If any man
sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”—1
John 2:1(See also Hebrews 7:25, Romans 8:27)
- Jesus Is The Propitiation for our sins—In other
words, the atoning person or atonement for our sins: “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in
Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his
blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past,
through the forbearance of God”—Romans 3:24-25(See also 1John 2:2, 1John
4:10)
- Jesus Is Our Judge: “And he commanded us to preach unto the
people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the judge
of quick and dead”—Acts 10:42 (See also John 5:22)
- Jesus is Our Shepherd and Lord—as a shepherd leads and cares for his sheep, the Lord Jesus Christ is our good Shepherd. He says, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep”—John 10:11 (See also John10:14, Hebrews 13:20, 1Peter 2:25)
The above list is an inexaustive answer to the question of who the Lord Jesus Christ is to us as believers and the world at large. Jesus is our everything. He is our all in all. He is our hope of eternal glory. But the above list gives the fundamental answer to the question of who Jesus Christ is.
