How to Put on Christ

Galatians 3:27 —”For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

Romans 13:14 — “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

For so many years after giving my life to Christ, I still struggled so much with a particular sin, even as a preacher of righteousness…

But overtime, as I applied the various scriptural revelations of God’s Word concerning mastery over sin, I eventually became a champion over that besetting sin as well as others I also struggled with.

And among those scriptural revelations that gave me masterful dominion over sin is the revelation of “Putting on Christ”, which I am sharing with you here in this post, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

You Have Put On Christ

Our first opening text above–Galatians 3:27—says, as many of us that have been baptized into Christ — baptism in water and in the Holy Spirit– have put on Christ…

In other words, when we receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith in our hearts, and get baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit, we spiritually get submerged or immersed into Christ. And we come into absolute oneness with Christ.

And this is why Saint John, by the Spirit, says, “as he (Jesus) is, so are we in this world” (1John 4:17). So as a believer in Christ Jesus, you are just as the Lord Jesus Christ is, above in glory. Hence, when the Lord was on earth, just like he says he is the light of the world, he also tells us that we are the light of the world (See John 8:12; Matthew 5:14)

How to Put on Christ

Our second opening text says we should put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and not make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts or ungodly desires.

Having scripturally seen that everyone that have been baptized into Christ, has put on Christ; the very next question that comes to mind is, why do I still need to put on Christ?

Now it is one thing to know and understand from scriptures that we have put on Christ by baptism. Then it’s another thing entirely to practically walk in the light of that truth.

Because the Word of God works in the lives of his children through faith. And true faith must be backed with corresponding action to produce result in our lives.

So having known and believed the word of God that you have put on Christ, you need to be walking in that consciousness in your everyday living. You need to stop seeing yourself like just an ordinary human being that is under the control of flesh and blood…

You need to stop seeing yourself as being subject to sin and every other perverse elements of this world…

And finally, you need to see yourself with the scriptural picture of Jesus in glory, in heaven (See Revelation 1:12-17). See yourself as glorified in and with Jesus Christ.

Always think and act like Jesus Christ in every situation you find yourself…

When you find yourself in any situation, good or bad just take a moment to picture yourself as Jesus Christ with your eyes of faith and ask yourself, what will Jesus do in a situation like this? And as you receive the answer, act accordingly to the glory of God. Yes, as you picture yourself as Jesus Christ by faith and ask what will Jesus do, the Holy Spirit will definitely guide and empower you to do the right thing to the glory of God, every time.

Because the word of God says, we have the mind of Christ (See 1Corinthians 2:16).

And that’s how to put on Christ for all-round triumphant and godly living.

So always engage the scriptural revelation you have just received from this post to always put on Christ in everything you do in life.
